Beautiful British Columbia
Nurse Rewards
Nurses are supported by a strong union, and British Columbia nurses are among the highest paid in Canada. As well, nurses receive premiums for working weekends and nights and generous benefit packages, including one month paid vacation after one year, eleven paid statutory holidays, full-extended medical/dental coverage, and generous retirement and insurance packages. Nurses also have scheduling options, including 7.25 and 11.25 hour shifts and varied roles, including bed-side nursing, front-line leadership and educator positions.

Registered Nurses are paid as per negotiated wages in the unionized collective agreement, with separate pay ranges for frontline nurses, educator/coordinator positions, and other supervisory roles. Frontline nursing wages begin at CAD $31.71/hour for a newly graduated nurse, and increase for every year of experience to a maximum of 9 years at CAD $41.63/hour. International experience is recognized when experience is assessed.

The professional regulatory body–The College of Registered Nurses Association of British Columbia, also supports nurses. Along with facilitating the mandatory licensing process, the Association provides practical support and education. Nurses seeking to be licensed to practice in Canada are required to write the national qualification exams, but are allowed to practice under Provisional registration while they prepare to sit these exams.

Information on licensure is available by clicking on the “Your Next Steps” menu button at the top of the page.  With all this to offer– the message to nurses is “carpe diem!” Seize the day! Follow your desire for adventure and career development and consider the opportunities before you. And in your deliberations, consider Vancouver, British Columbia. Because it offers something for every taste– including yours!
